Perfecting Rails and Capturing Moments: Jack’s Journey

Perfecting Rails and Capturing Moments: Jack’s Journey

At Global Rail Group we take equal amounts of pride in our employees’ holistic railway expertise, and in the unique talents that they bring to the table. So today, let’s talk about Jack Lindquist, Senior Rail Maintenance Specialist at Global Rail North America, who happens to also be an exceptional photographer.

A Passion for Rail: On and Off Track

Specializing in rail profile grinding, Jack has been an integral part of Global Rail North America (formerly ARM) for more than 40 years.

As our Senior Rail Maintenance Specialist, he oversees rail profile grinding operations, as well as implementing new wheel and rail profile maintenance strategies and repair techniques using range vision optical measurements systems.

Overseeing rail grinding projects is not the only area that Jack excels in. While on track, he often pops out his camera to capture the hard work and precision that goes into rail operations. Because of his vast experience, Jack has a unique perspective on the industry, which he visually shares with us through his lens. These images have been featured in leading industry publications, including RT&S magazine’s latest issue, showcasing the skill and dedication of people working behind the scenes.

When asked about his passion for photography, Jack shared that his love for capturing moments stems from a lifelong fascination with landscapes, cities and the railway industry. It all started with Jack wanting to document the places he visited while on work trips and share those moments with family and friends. That was 47 years ago and since he’s traveled the length and breadth of North America, capturing one memory after another… and some rail tracks!

The passion for photography also runs in his family. His father, who was fascinated by taking pictures, even built a darkroom in the basement of their house to develop his own photos.

Over the years Jack has built an extensive collection of images. Picking favorites for this showcase was no easy task. “I have many, many photos I’ve shot throughout the years, although I haven’t taken as many recently – getting old, I guess!”, he jokes. His work speaks for itself, giving us a glimpse into the world through his lens.
