Your role as Field Services Specialist
As a Field Services Specialist at Global Rail Group, you will support the planning, execution, and delivery of rail maintenance and rail grinding programs across North America. You will also support the successful planning and execution of non-intrusive data collection, processing, and analysis. This role is well suited for a technically capable professional with hands-on field experience who is looking to further develop expertise in rail maintenance operations, quality assurance, and data services.
You will work closely with senior specialists, contractors, and clients to ensure maintenance activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with project and quality requirements.
- Support the execution of rail grinding and rail maintenance programs on transit, commuter, and freight rail systems
- Assist in field coordination of rail grinding operations, including daily work planning, shift support, and on-site troubleshooting
- Support assessment of grinding equipment capabilities and operational performance
- Assist with monitoring and evaluating grinding quality, production rates, and maintenance efficiency
- Apply and support rail grinding patterns, grinding templates, and optimized grinding speeds under guidance of senior staff
- Support QA/QC activities related to rail grinding and maintenance performance
- Support documentation, reporting, and data collection related to rail maintenance activities
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain specialized portable measurement tools and hi-rail mounted testing equipment specific to measuring train wheels and rail profile, track geometry, or surface condition
- Assist in identifying operational issues in the field and support implementation of corrective actions
- Coordinate with contractors, equipment operators, and client representatives to ensure alignment with project requirements
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, operating rules, and project-specific procedures
- Any other equipment or project related tasks as assigned by the Operational Project Manager
Your profile
- 3–5 years of professional experience in rail maintenance, rail grinding, or railway operations
- Hands-on experience supporting rail grinding, rail milling, or track maintenance activities in the field
- Working knowledge of rail grinding fundamentals, QA/QC principles, and rail condition is an asset
- Experience working with or around rail maintenance and grinding machinery and measuring equipment
- Ability to support troubleshooting of operational and equipment-related issues
- Strong understanding of railway safety practices and field procedures
- Ability to work in physically active environments, including occasional lifting or moving small equipment, navigating uneven surfaces, climbing, and working outdoors
- Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working in dynamic field environments
- Comfortable working closely with senior specialists, contractors, and clients
- Possession of a Valid Passport and willingness to travel and work flexible schedules based on project needs
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Willingness to take initiative and troubleshoot challenges autonomously
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with other rail-related technical software/tools is an asset
- Strong written and spoken English; additional languages (Spanish, French, German, Portuguese) are an asset
